Why is there an adoption fee? The small fee that Blue Ridge Rescue asks its adopters to pay represents only a fraction of the costs involved in rehabilitating a rescued equine (or other animal). There are months of feed to bring the rescue up to weight, veterinarian bills, training, fuel, worming, farrier care, - just to name a few of the expenses involved. Blue Ridge Rescue has no paid employees, not one person receives a salary. This is a labor of love. If it were not for financial contributions and hours of time from Blue Ridge Rescue volunteers, we would have to stop rescuing abused and neglected equines. The fee is simply a token toward the expense involved in transforming the rescued equine from a deeply wounded and hurt animal into a loving and purposeful animal.
